Maintained the project schedule despite dealing with 1500 tonne of contaminated soil, late delivery of tower crane and Burnaby’s requirement to leave a truck wash in place until 90% of the volume was removed.
We were subsequently awarded phase 2 of The Met in August 2014.
Ventana Construction Corporation
Bulk and footing excavation totaling 48,000 M3 to an average depth of 14.7 M
Shotcrete shoring 3450 M2, Anchors 690 EA an average of 11.3 M long
Fully cooperated with Ventana while contending with multiple changes to the shoring designs and/or field issued directives resulting from poor soil conditions. Contended with the requirement for extensive face saving measures in the upper soft fills and soft clay. Added vertical spiles on one face to contain migrating near surface fills. Budgeted and executed a new H-Pile shoring system with shotcrete lagging to repair a zone where a failure occurred in the upper soft soils. Constantly pumped extensive inflows of groundwater to onsite treatment location. Blasted, split and hoe-rammed extremely hard zones of sandstone in the lower half of the excavation. Negotiated final payout after many months of discussions, avoiding the need to force payment through a lawsuit.

Bulk and footing excavation totaling 10,500 M3 to an average depth of 7.5 M
Shotcrete shoring 1050 M2
Underpinning of adjacent building – 90 M2
Anchors 385 EA an average of 8.5 M long
Completed on schedule despite rock excavation being added to scope.
